THE AWARDS / PROGRAMME FAMILY

Design & Craft

A design is both seen and used. This programme considers how an idea becomes a resolved work through material, structure, making and detail.

01 / SCOPE

What belongs here

Books and visual communication; products and objects; spaces and environments; craft and material exploration.

Specific groups will reflect the discipline, age or experience, region and season, so that work is considered in a suitable context.

02 / THE ENTRY

Showing the work

Explain the design problem, intended users and stage of completion. Show the important details and credit individual and team contributions.

Read the entry guide

The first season is in development. Dates, eligibility, review methods and fees will be published when the programme opens.

MATERIALS & EVALUATION

Design & Craft: prepare the work so it can be read

Design & Craft recognises the relationship between an idea, its intended audience and the way it is resolved through type, structure, material, image or interaction.

Whole work

A clear overall view or sequence helps the reviewer understand what the work is.

Key details

Show typography, joins, surfaces, interfaces or other details that demonstrate completion.

Context and audience

Describe the people, use setting or question that shaped the design choices.

Contribution

Identify the entrant’s role, collaborators and any outside assistance.

Stage of making

Distinguish an idea, prototype and completed work; do not present a plan as a tested result.

Problem and audience

What need, reader, user or situation is the work addressing?

Idea and expression

Is the central idea clear and coherently expressed?

Execution and detail

Do material, layout, structure or interaction support the idea?

Contribution and evidence

What can be attributed to the entrant, and what evidence supports the claims?

Current status: no open call, fee or timetable has been published. Read the preparation guidance now; an open call will state the terms that actually apply.
